My 5 insider tips for Tanzania
Unforgettable safari moments away from the usual tourist trails
Tanzania is one of those destinations that stays with you long after you leave. Vast savannas, incredible wildlife encounters and the feeling of peace you find in nature make every safari unique. But take a closer look and give yourself time to explore, and you’ll discover experiences that go far beyond the usual safari routes.
Here are five of my personal tips for making your trip to Tanzania truly unforgettable.

1. Getting up early is absolutely worth it
The magic often begins before sunrise. In the early morning, the air is crisp, the light is golden and wildlife is particularly active. Lions resting after a hunt, elephants making their way to waterholes or giraffes moving through the first light of day – these are some of the most memorable moments you can experience on safari.
2. Explore quieter spots instead of the popular hotspots
Tanzania’s famous national parks are impressive, there’s no doubt about that. But some of the most rewarding experiences can be found along the quieter tracks, away from the busiest areas. Exploring less-travelled routes lets you experience the wilderness at a more relaxed pace and feel closer to nature – almost as if you have it all to yourself.
3. Look beyond the Big Five
Lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos and buffalo may be the stars of any safari, but Tanzania has so much more to offer. Watch cheetahs on the hunt, discover colourful birdlife, spot hyenas in the evening light or marvel at vast herds of wildebeest during the Great Migration. The more you look beyond the obvious, the more incredible wildlife diversity you’ll discover.
4. Take your time instead of rushing from place to place
A safari isn’t a race. Some of the best moments happen when you stop, wait and simply observe. Animals often come closer on their own when you give them time and space. Patience is usually rewarded – sometimes with wildlife encounters you’ll remember for the rest of your life.
5. Enjoy the little moments
It’s not just the big wildlife sightings that make a trip special. Sometimes, it’s the quiet moments that stay with you longest: the sun setting over the savanna, the sounds of the African night or a morning coffee at camp with the vast landscape stretching out before you.
Tanzania is more than just a destination – it’s a feeling. If you let yourself slow down and take it all in, you’ll discover not only incredible wildlife and landscapes, but also a completely different way of experiencing time.
